5 Tips to Help your Child Settle in At Nursery

One of the biggest transitions that a parent and toddler experience is starting nursery school. There are many emotions involved when your little one ventures off to nursery, and by being well prepared and in control of your emotions you can significantly help them with settling into nursery.

This article will provide tips for settling your child in at nursery school so both of you have positive experiences!

1. Take Your Child for a Visit in Advance

Start creating excitement and positiveness about going to nursery school for your child, long before it’s time to go. Also, visit the classroom so your toddler can meet the teacher and some other kids before starting. Most nursery schools in Wimbledon offer your child the chance to familiarise themselves with the environment before their first day.

2. Settling in Sessions

You can bring your child into your new nursery for toddlers for a series of settling in sessions before they start officially. By taking your child to settling in sessions you can likely avoid any intense feelings of fear and will instead make the child feel safe and familiar with a new place.

3. Have Trust in the Staff’s Expertise

Your Nursery school staff has experienced the transition of new students’ time and again. Your child’s teachers know what they’re doing and, most of all, they want your child’s transition into nursery school to be as easy and seamless as possible. So, listen to their advice and work with them to find what works for your little one.

4. Leave Your Emotions at the Door

No matter how emotional you’re feeling about your toddler taking their first fledgling steps outside the nest, you must not show it to them. If they see you fretting they will feel your anxiety, and you’ll make your child uneasy. Project excitement and support and, of course, compassion if they are having a hard time.

5. Importance of Routine and Structure

Establishing a routine (meals, activities, bath, etc) with your child is extremely important when your child is attending nursery school. Try and keep this the same each day because this sets your little one up for success for the day or evening ahead of them.

The friendly and experienced staff at your new nursery in Wimbledon, Wimbledon Day Nursery, will make sure your child’s transition into Nursery School will be easy and fun so they enjoy coming back each day.
