toddler room
The pre-school room is for children from the ages of three years to five years and will be a fun-filled and thriving environment for your child. All staff have a fun and friendly approach to teaching and believe that the child always comes first. We want you to feel comfortable and happy with your choice of nursery and feel your child is getting the best possible care and education from the beginning.  We want you as parents to be involved in our learning process as we believe that in partnership with you we can make a better start for your child.
The staff will be planning and catering for your child's needs using the Early Years Foundation Stage and Early Learning Goals creating a stimulating and nurturing environment for your child to flourish.. Each month a new topic will be chosen based on the children’s interests and our project will begin covering all areas of the curriculum and developing your child's knowledge base in a fun and imaginative way.
Your child will have a Key Worker, a member  of staff who will be responsible for the day to day wellbeing of your child during their time at nursery. Your child will develop a close bond with this member of staff and a mutual respect and understanding making their time at nursery a more special experience and making nursery a place they feel loved, secure and safe to explore.
Free Play
Each day the classroom will be set up with learning activities  that your child can choose from mapping out their own learning experience, from craft and role play through to science experiments and math and language games, the classroom will cater for all learning needs. The classroom will have an area set up for each area of the curriculum offering all sorts of different learning opportunities from a home corner with working features such as real washing up water to a nature table with wildlife to explore and an I.T corner with computer, interactive toys and other technology. During this time all areas of the classroom will be open for your child to explore. This gives your child the opportunity to practise independance of choice and develop their social skills.
Group Activity
Each day your child will have a group activity time with his or her key worker. The group activity will be based around the current theme and work towards your child’s Early Learning Goals at a pace and in a learning style that is suitable for your child. During each group time the activity will be geared towards one of the learning areas for the Early Years Foundation Stage as listed below:
* Personal, Social and Emotional Development.
* Communication, Language and Literacy.
* Problem Solving, Reasoning and Numeracy.
* Knowledge and understanding of the World.
* Physical development.
* Creative Development.

Story Time

The Pre-school room will have a book area for the children to explore at all times or for them just to go and sit in when they want some quiet time. Stories and books are important for children and is something they love. Story time will be interactive and fun with many different story telling methods. Children will be encouraged to participate in story time through use of props and questions and will be offered the opportunity to tell a group story making one up with guidance from an adult. Story time is a quiet time to practise listening skills but should also be a fun and stimulating experience with room for plenty of imagination.

News Time

News time is a fun part of the day where children get to share their experiences outside of nursery with their friends and teachers. Each week a child will be chosen from the pre-school class to take Winnie Bear home for the weekend along with a journal so they can add their own weekend adventures with Winnie to share with their friends the following week. We will also use this time to look at the letter and number of the week, and the daily calendar and weather.
Music and Movement

This time will be used for a variety of creative movement activities provided by staff and extra curricula programmes.

Garden and Outdoor Experiences

We are lucky to benefit from two garden areas where all children will have the opportunity for exciting experiences bursting with learning advantages

Our nature area is a calm space where the children can go to explore in a natural environment. We have a vegetable patch, herb garden and digging area for the children to discover their senses and a willow dome for the children to hide in with their friends. Whilst investigating in our nature garden the children are able to watch the wildlife which often, when feeling brave, visit us.

Our second garden has a soft surface area allowing children to move freely with confidence setting their own challenges in their play. We have an extensive variety of gross motor equipment and outdoor construction, sand and water and den making kits for the children to explore and imagine. This garden is an outdoor extension to the indoor classroom offering the children a range of activities across the curriculum areas.

All of the rooms also take the children out into the community. The younger children go to the local parks and green areas whilst the older children visit local temples, fire stations and go tree climbing exploring all that Wimbledon has to offer.
